This week, we’re taking it back to where it all began, with our founder.
After 12 years working in luxury hotels around the world including The Savoy, Fairmont Kea Lani in Maui, and Raffles Seychelles he felt the pull back home to New Zealand. Family was at the heart of that decision, and so too was a vision, to create a venue that delivered exceptional service and fine cuisine, wrapped in genuine Kiwi charm.
In 2013, he approached Kent, who wanted to retain his coastal land but find a better way to use it. Together, they saw the opportunity to build something truly special. With the support of his uncle, Jonny, and inspiration from Boomrock Wellington, the concept of Kauri Bay began to take shape. After a long journey through consents, building finally began in 2015 and the rest, as they say, is history.
What has made Kauri Bay a success?
The unique location, close to the city, yet completely secluded. The breathtaking views. A focus on exceptional cuisine and high level service, delivered with that unmistakable Kiwi charm. But most of all, it’s passion bringing the best of five star hotel experience home and pouring it into a project to love, grow, and work hard for every day.
Along the way, life added its own chapters too, meeting Kate, and welcoming Dan and Tayla two of the brightest lights in this story.
Ten years on, the dream that began as a vision has become a legacy, and the best chapters are still to come...

Tucked away on the property is one of our little gems — The Quail’s Nest.
Originally built as a solo project during the Covid lockdown (after Beretta requested a fourth claybird shooting stand… and to keep Ollie busy!), it quickly grew into something special.
Designed for smaller groups of 5–20, The Quail’s Nest is the perfect spot for a quick bit of fun or a long, chilled afternoon that finishes with you basking in the very last of the evening sun.
Inside, you’ll find character at every corner — trophy hunting mounts on the walls, a dart board, and the legendary “Gong Show,” where a well-aimed golf shot can knock $100 off the bar tab.
With catering options available, it’s ideal for stags, hens, private groups, or simply those who want a relaxed space to gather.

This week, we’re taking you inside the heart of it all, The Lodge.
From the very beginning, this venue was designed with versatility in mind. A breathtaking entrance opens up into a space that expands with the view — a reveal that never fails to impress.
The infinity walkway was carefully aligned with the channel between Ponui and Waiheke Islands which took more than a few attempts to get it right.
Built to hold four tonnes, this same runway has welcomed everything from luxury vehicle launches to unforgettable wedding entrances.
With the help of @spacecraftarchitects we created a venue that balances rustic warmth with modern, industrial design — a space that frames the incredible views while feeling both welcoming and world-class.
Over the years, the Lodge has been the backdrop for countless moments. It’s more than a venue — it’s the heart of where memories are made. And we can’t wait to keep making more.
Last week Ollie took the team to Queenstown as a well deserved thank you for the effort we’ve poured into the past year. With our busiest season running from November to April, we save our Christmas party for mid-year, a time to pause, celebrate, and reconnect.
The trip was full of laughs, bonding, and a little friendly competition, reminding us why we’re such a strong team. We work hard, we play hard, and above all, we’re passionate about creating incredible events.
Now, refreshed and inspired, we’re ready to welcome you back and bring your vision to life!
